number six. Vlisco is known for
its batik fabrics for the
West African market. 
The author Jos Arts has
started the research just recently.

ArtEZ Modelectoraat

Welcome at the ArtEZ Modelectoraat, a department of ArtEZ Institute of the Art. The modelectoraat ArtEZ considers fashion as one of the most important cultural phenomenon’s in our visual culture. Delving beneath the superficiality of changing fashion trends we try to find the deeper layers of meaning related to changing social needs or fresh insights and concepts. Modelectoraat ArtEZ stimulates and develops fashion theory and research by developing research projects, theoretical publications on fashion and a new theoretical curriculum for fashion education. The modelectoraat works closely with the Ba Fashion department of ArtEZ and the two postgraduate Fashion Masters and the ArtEZ press. The modelectoraat also cooperates in ARRCI science centre on creative industry. In collaboration with the Radboud University, Saxion and HAN the modelectoraat and Prof dr Dany Jacobs recently started a research program on ‘Dutch Identity in a Globalised World’ financed by NWO, culturele dynamiek.
 

José Teunissen


Since 2002 José Teunissen (Boekel 1959) is installed as a Professor of filmtheory at the ArtEZ modelectoraat. She also works as a free lance curator and publicist. Teunissen studied Dutch Language and Film Studies and specialised in the narrative function of costume in film. She did a research on The female Comedienne and the aesthetics and meaning of the early fashion journals. Between 1987 and 1997 she teached film and photography theory at the art school in Tilburg.

Kenniskring

The ArtEZ modelectoraat works closely with readers and lecturers from ArtEZ. They publish and cooperate in the research projects. The kenniskring includes Drs Nanda van den Berg, Drs Karin Schacknat, Jan Brand en Jos Arts. Jeroen van den Eijnde is working on a phd. See the ARCCI website for more information.
